Re: Old to the game and have some questions

Annotation 6: If an action requires an entity to be discarded as a condition for the action's main effect, that entity must be discarded when the action is declared; this is considered synonymous with the action's declaration; i.e., it is not a separate action. Annotation 7: If any other active con...

Re: Old to the game and have some questions

Is it not a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt for so small a thing? EVENTS There are both resource events and hazard events. Each event falls into one of three classifications based upon how long it stays in play. Short-event – A short-event’s effects are implemented; then, ...

Old to the game and have some questions

Continuing from: New to the game and have some questions. ---------------- The difference is that active conditions do not have targets, since they are not actions, by definition. A card that is played on another card targets that card by rule. The argument is valid only so long as one assumes that ...

Re: New to the game and have some questions.

. If each entity associated with action (tapped, discarded at declaration) is perceived as entity through which a card or effect will be played out, each will be considered a target. Only the one that gets tapped or discarded is THE target. Of course, there maybe be more than one valid target. . co...

Re: New to the game and have some questions.

With how you guys understand the rules its no wonder you guys see so many issues in the cards.

There is consistency. Try to find it. You can do it!

Re: New to the game and have some questions.

an active condition of discarding a card does not target the discarded card I would say so. That's just incorrect. There is no way to perform any action without a target. Discarding Card_B is a typical active condition for some other Action_A of Card_A. If you can't choose Card_B for the discarding...

Re: Thrall of the Voice: multiple on character clarification

As you mentioned above, Thrall's wording does not create three separate abilities to bring characters into play. It enables one option, which, when used, requires that Thrall be placed with the character. This is not an accurate reflection of my statements above. you place Thrall with the character...

Re: Order of an actions caused by effects of cards not in play

I was describing a statement on passive conditions.

I was not describing the card or the card's active conditions.

Good to know the differences.

Re: New to the game and have some questions.

Brandobras, instead of picking and choosing two line out of context, go back and read "Events" (MELE p. 40, 41) "Actions and Card Play" (MELE p. 50), "Timing Rules" (MELE, p. 69), and the Glossary on Action, Declaring an Action, Resolving an Action, Chain of Effects, Targeting, Active Condition, and...

Re: Order of an actions caused by effects of cards not in play

The statement means: If the action (passive condition) that triggers another triggerable action is created by a card then card must be in play when the triggerable action is triggered For example, if a creature creates an attack (the passive condition), and another card gives +1 prowess to creature ...

Re: New to the game and have some questions.

Await the Onset has no active condition for the action of playing the card. Looking at Await the Onset again, I realize that I was not looking at this same card before. But Galadriel is not the target of "Any one corruption check made by a character not in a Shadow-hold or Dark-hold is automaticall...

Not sure whether you noticed (or whether you agree) that having a card in play and discarding it are conditions that mutually preclude each other.
It is essentially the same as "discard a Nazgûl permanent-event you have in play."

Re: Helms of Iron, Scimitars of Steel #1

Thinking more on this, the discarded Nazgûl permanent-event must be specified and discarded immediately (outside of the chain of effects) upon playing "Helms of Iron" or "Scimitars of Steel." Normally, you could expect the playability conditions to be listed upfront. You would expect to see " playab...

Re: New to the game and have some questions.

The difference is that active conditions do not have targets, since they are not actions, by definition. This statement is so confused. Read the rules on active conditions and targets a few times. If not anything else then "Galadriel makes a corruption check..." targests Galadriel. Yes, Galadriel i...
