Re: ARDA VARIANTS
We played an Elf-lord/Dúnadan-lord Arda last weekend. Experiences with stage cards were mixed. On the one hand, it seems pointless to have dead cards (i.e. stage cards that only modify MPs) in an Arda (with only Fallen avatars). On the other hand, it could be interesting for strategy and trading to ...

Re: Wreck of The Thoroval / moving to a dungeon
Apologies for the late reply, seems this one went unnoticed? Yes movement to/from a Dungeon is Under-deeps movement. So indeed, descending is easy (= no roll), moving up is difficult. Hmm, I searched for any specific info on The Under-galleries to see if that came up anywhere. It hasn't. It's not on...

Re: appointing a new NetRep
Gavin replied to my email and it looks like he won't be spending time doing official announcements. I looked it up but we never settled on a vice-chair for 2019-2021? So, let's just call it and appoint Manuel Cabezali as the new NetRep. We'll be doing a bit of restructuring of the forum, reinstating...

Re: discussion - Middle-earth: The Firstborn
he asked about the FF rules, though ;-) it's at this DC section, under rules etc. https://councilofelrond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=159&t=1299 they're the 1.0 version, but Lord-player rules did not change much (or any at all?) since publication of First Folk. after Northern Legacy I will update ...

Re: appointing a new NetRep
I had a lengthy conversation about this with Sergio Martinez (Kodi) earlier this year. At the time I had some reservations about organizing an all-Spanish NetRep team, which not only comes from a single community (of non-native English speakers), but would also have to contend with contrarian forces...

Re: Elrond's Dreamcard Dunk Deck
Is dunking easier for Elrond than for Wizards? Probably not. Is it more satisfying? for sure! Elrond was there at Mt. Doom 3000 years ago, when Isildur ignored his counsel and kept the One Ring for himself. So, you might call your deck "making amends", or "two time's the charm." ...

Re: Mulligan ponderings
One can't make any reliable calculations about the impact of playing the avatar in same-avatar games, as that is a qualitative factor. Even if I'm the 2nd player, I got a 99% chance of playing my avatar if he is Saruman ;-) Moreover, we're losing sight of what we're discussing here. We talk about th...
Re: 633-Dwar
Creature of an Older World (like Winged Terror) is Winged. This means he can tap to give another character (presumably his controller) 'flying.' If the company is allowed to use region movement, and all characters/allies have 'flying', they can move 6 regions, and only the first and last region are ...

Re: DC Maps
Yes the Northern Waste territory does include more regions to the east (these are on the First Folk regions map). But the posted map is the one made for the Northern Legacy print, and those eastern regions aren't included in the NL set. If we had included the eastern regions in the set, the scope wo...

Re: Mulligan ponderings
Defensive? Which parts, the combos comment? I'm only half joking there. Combos are often disregarded in the game because they are unreliable, not effective enough, obstructing cardflow etc. Thus, potentially removing a negative (in our view) doesn't seem a good argument against the mulligan. On the ...

Re: World Championship Mode - possible changes: no deck changing for Finals
Hrum, hoom, I was doing some gardening (and had already given my opinion). I wouldn't change it, mindgames are part of the competition. Also, if you play a 5 round semi's and you make it to the finals, chances are you have already faced 1 or 2 of the other finalists. Redoing that match with the same...

Re: Mulligan ponderings
A general mulligan benefits the toss-winning player way too much with respect to playing his avatar. This is HUGE, especially in games where both players intend to play the same avatar, and HUGER when they have no alternative to that avatar (i.e. Fallen-wizard and Balrog players). Advantage of playi...
