Re: California Meetups?

I'd be happy to play at a cafe in southern california, but do you think Stratigicon is not a good option anymore? I don't think many of the players who were there post on here... There are Stratigicon conventions on memorial day and labor day. Memorial day is soon but Labor day could be an option? M...

Re: Here, there or yonder ... exploits?

Allies are good for the reasons you mentioned, no doubt. Even better in a 3- or 4-deck game. Lots of other strategies are better in longer games but they haven't seemed to catch on despite the 1-deck game being "played out" just a few months from the game's release. I think at some point i...

Re: 322-Player Simulator

This looks really neat and like a ton of effort, but I think I'll need a 3rd coffee or more to see what it is all about. Can you talk a little more about your project? Are the players/decks being simulated to play against each other? By the way, it seems like my version of Excel is different since I...

Re: Clear skies - affects minion characters as well?

The Wizards: Night RARITY: Common, PRECISE: CA1 HAZARD: Long-event Environment. The prowess of each non-ranger Dúnadan is modified by -1. Additionally, if Doors of Night is in play, the prowesses of all attacks are modified by +1 and the prowess of each Man and Dúnadan is modified by -1. Cannot be ...

Re: Here, there or yonder ... exploits?

That depends on whether a resource is played at a site or merely under control of character on the site. [/quote] There is a difference but a resource played "merely under control of character on the site" is already played "at the site" since the resource is "played" ...

Re: Here, there or yonder ... exploits?

Before errata the ally could be played with Here, There, or Yonder at/not at [-me_rl-] versions of The White Towers anyway, because for Here, There, or Yonder it does not matter whether the ally is playable at given [-me_rl-]. The same applies to Isengard and Fortress of Isen. https://councilofelro...

Re: Clear skies - affects minion characters as well?

Concept of ally counting during combat as character for all purposes leads to situation that an ally with prowess receives +2 to prowess from Fellowship during combat. Once for being an ally, once for being a character. Even if an ally counted as a character for all purposes they would not receive ...

Re: Here, there or yonder ... exploits?

If it is "explicit" that an ally played with Here, There, or Yonder is played at site , e.g. because it is usual procedure of playing ally and it is not explicitly said otherwise, the the same applies to playing Gollum after failed attack of My Precious. No way to play Gollum for moving c...

Re: Clear skies - affects minion characters as well?

There are a few cards which depend on Gates/Doors to be played but then remain in play (and in effect) if the corresponding card leaves play. This same question comes up for Morgul Night as well. The cards that lose their effect will state something like "discard when Doors of Night leaves play...

Re: Here, there or yonder ... exploits?

as when something is 'played' it does not necessarily mean it has to be 'playable' at the site. I agree that Here, There, or Yonder can play an ally at a site other than the one given on their card. But I wouldn't say this. When a card is "played" or "brought into play" it must ...

Re: Here, there or yonder ... exploits?

Thinking about "playability" as a characteristic of the card is helpful but there are situations where cards become playable by some effect. Like MEWH Untimely Brood states "One non-unique ally with a mind of 1 is playable at one of your tapped or untapped protected Wizardhavens [] ea...

Re: A New Ringlord

I guess that's what I suspected was the rationale: 2 cards = 2 rolls.

It's not persuasive.

Yes, the player is required to make a roll. I see the requirement.

Two copies of the same card have the same requirement.

But why would they roll twice?
