Hello,
With the new dream card set I've dusted my binders to the basement of my house.
Now I'm looking to build some scenarios decks.
With my friends of the late 90's one card was our grail of meccg : "King under the mountain".
Unfortunately we never succeed to cast the card.
Do you have good tips to help us to perfom this quest after 25 years of disapointement ?

I am a beginner player but have pulled this off. It was definitely fun! I recommend including the At Home dragons in your hazard portion yourself, you can still defeat them but you can't get MP from your own cards.

The Old Thrush gives -3 body and Sacrifice of Form gives -3 Body to the attack. Meaning Bairanax At Home with 7 body would be an automatic defeat and Smaug and others with 8 body would be almost automatic. I include 3 copies of Old Thrush and 2 copies of Sacrifice of Form. You can also include Wormsbane to reduce body but I don't think it's needed if you focus on Sacrifice of Form. One hiccup is that Sacrifice of Form will discard ALL non-item cards he controls, which includes character-followers. So be careful who is controlled by your wizard. This is one reason that low-mind Dwarves work well for this deck as they can be easily controlled by Thorin and Balin/Gloin. Or An Unexpected Party.

I include King Under the Mountain and Returned Exiles in the deck but they could also be in the sideboard. I have them in the deck to play them as soon as possible after defeating the dragon. This fills up my hand (Thrush, Sacrifice, Exiles, King, etc) so it is good to include Emerald of the Mariner. Book of Mazarbul is nice also. And you could even use Pallando to increase hand size. Alternatively you can use Gandalf because he can start at Lorien and get back to the action sooner.

I include several hoard items and go to hoard sites, but you can really just wait until you have the cards to head into dragon country. But definitely include several greater items because you will have plenty of non-item MP. Meaning that your item MP will not be capped.

Thror's Map is nice to take advantage of defeating a dragon. Iron Hills Dwarves is easy to includes with Thorin, etc. I also include A Chance Meeting, A Friend or Three, and Flatter a Foe.

My starting party was Thorin II, Balin (sage), Bifur, Bofur , and Óin (Ranger).

I've also seen Arrows Shorn of Ebony used to good effect.

Which can not be used on the Dragon at Home, since it's a creature keyed to a site as to my rule knowledge or lack thereof.

Card says:
The Dragons: Arrows Shorn of Ebony

Resource: Minor Item

Hoard item. Warrior only: discard Arrows Shorn of Ebony to modify a strike from a hazard creature attack not keyed to a site by -1 prowess, -2 body. If this strike is defeated, all other subsequent failed strikes from this attack are automatically defeated.

At Home events create automatic attacks. Not creature attacks.

Automatic attacks are not keyed to anything.

Redacted. Now I can't remember if we realized this at the time. Memory is tricksey.

This is why I settled on Sacrifice of Form. It's really difficult to get enough prowess and body for several strikes, even if you wait a turn after moving or you get lucky and avoid M/H attacks.

Not at Home or Sated Beast reduce strikes when using Gates/Doors. Alert the Folks and Fast Asleep help with prowess but don't seem worth playing to me.

Staff Asunder helps with prowess and body but requires a Wizard's Staff. Dragon-Lore could help retrieve it. However, Sacrifice of Form is easier to use and has better odds of success. The other cards require too large of a combo. Even with Sacrifice of Form, King Under the Mountain is difficult to pull off.

Solo Fram+Wormsbane+Old Thrush is pretty common, too.

Solo Bard + Black Arrow you mean? Except it was really an Ahunt manifestation, no? Or at least a Basic manifestation with Doors of Night. But I guess in either case Bard wasn't moving, so I'm totally confused.

Or wait another DC set or two and perhaps the card combinations will all be so overpowered that this thread will just seem silly.

As I can tell from experiance, reducing either the strike to one (or having just 1 dude face the strike ) is key, many hazard players have Unabated and or Hoarmurath

so Fram + Wormsbane alone is risky (alone and stupid anyone), lone wizard + SoF is less risky, but prone to Tidings of Bold spies ;)

so the kings way is to use Not at Home (with Crown of Flowers) + Sated Beasts while having Doors of Night, Dragon Feuds (with some drakes in hand - protect what you play hazards) & Leucaruth at Home in in play.

Scabbard of Chalcedoney via Cup of Farewell also helps with the bc and is easy to get if you have no Wormsbane, but it still needs an Old Trush unless you have my dice ;)

a good opponent will still Marvel/Voice your "at home" so include several (Leucaruth is best on table as protection)

A nice way to get them to hand is via From the Pits of Angband (from DP via SB) or use Parsimony of Seclusion for Agburanar at Home,

a need trick I have seen Denis (french guy) do in the Scenario turney, was to have one dude fail a Burglary attempt so that he has to face all AAs alone

also Token of Goodwill is always good to grab the card you need when you need it,

In DC it is easier indeed, will go into detail then
as the Horn of Defiance is key there for me ;)
