Have you ever wondered how it would have been to play MECCG back in the days when it first came out? Well, this is your chance to try and test yourself in a METW-only tournament.

This is the first event in a "Rediscover Middle-Earth" series that is meant to help beginners with gradually learning this game while at the same time giving more seasoned players an opportunity to explore a metagame environment that they may have not experienced in a long time or at all. This spring METW-only event will be followed by a summer tournament introducing Middle-Earth The Dragons.

To promote community engagement in these events, spectating will actually be encouraged, while allowing players to change their deck between rounds in response to scouting from other participants.

Registration at https://play.meccg.com/tournaments/redi ... zards-2025, deadline April 6, 2025

===============================================================

This event will be a standard Swiss system format tournament following standard Council of Lorien rules, except that a) it will be restricted to only using cards (including sites) only from the first MECCG set: Middle Earth the Wizards and b) that players will be able to modify or enterily change their decks in between rounds. Standard CoE rulings also apply (see https://meccg.com/rules for rulings digest and collected ruling file).

- Format: The tournament will consist of several rounds of standard 2-deck games, with each round lasting two weeks. A tentative schedule for the overall event is provided below and will be finalised after registration is closed.

- Deck Construction: Standard minimum 30/30 resource/hazard sides and a 12 hazard creature limit will apply but sideboard size will be limited to 15 cards. Deck legality will be enforced automatically by the platform except for sideboard size and sites. Players will be free to modify their decks in between rounds, if they so wish.

- Checking Sideboard Size and Sites: Players will be able to check their opponent sideboard size before drafting character and if necessary ask to remove from the game an appropriate number of sideboard cards. Likewise, players should be lenient and allow their opponent to change destination site, should they reveal sites from later MECCG expansions.

- Round and Game duration: Round will last two weeks, during which players will have to agree on a time to play their games. Players are free to play as long as they need to, pausing and resuming games if needed, but if time is of essence a minimum time limit of 3h should be used (not counting time spent in checking rules or in seeking help with them).

- Communications: All communication during the tournaments with and between players (pairing, reminders, clarifications etc) will take place both on discord and whatsapp, using dedicated threads and groups, in addition to using standard email.

- Registration: Players will be able to register directly on the Middle-earth platform, and in the process will have to provide either their discord nickname or their telephone number (or both).

- Tutorials: The CoE Organised Play committee will offer tutorials for playing on Middle-earth. Just contact the tournament organiser at sarma72@gmail.com or on discord.

- Schedule:
23 March - 6 April Registration and Deck(s) Construction
07 April - 20 April : Round 1
21 April - 4 May : Round 2
5 May - 18 May : Round 3
19 May - 1 June : Round 4
one extra round if need be

While many real-life issues have sprung up preventing me from participating, I'm fascinated by this idea. The non-existence of An Unexpected Outpost alone would be enough to really shake things up.
The game is flawed, but this does not mean it cannot be loved.

Dear Bandobras,

yes life has finally caught up with me as well, and that's why I haven't played a game online since three months now! But I do intend to participate in this one, and the two-weeks time for each round should help here. If you do need some guidance with the play.meccg.com platform do not hesitate to reach me.
