MERRY
Unique. Unless he is one of the starting characters, he may only be brought into play at his home site. While he is not at a haven, all characters in his company receive +1 to their corruption checks (-1 instead if he is wounded).

just for thematic purposes, wasn't merry the one with the palantir abuse???
or was that pipin... I allways forget that!

(because if yes, maybe extra corruption prevention, would be wrong for him)

By the way, I totaly agree that both pipin and merry need new versions, because they are not playable AT ALL!

maybe he should even get one less mind!
because MIND 4 is quiet extrem for a character with playability restictions AND only prowless 1.

do hobbits actually care about such restrictions? in my experience, i'd say no...

prowess 1 is no point for hobbits: half hazard limit, scout cards, halfling ... make up for that section. I think Merry and Pippin are fairly ok.

I've never seen anybody play them!

either you play bilbo or frodo... who have an extra skill and fewer corruption...

or you play RUDI...who has one less mind!!!! and is just striktly better....

There will always be characters that are played more or less than others. If there are good ideas to boost specific characters that are absolutely useless, I do not mind. I do not see any point in shifting the balance between characters that are pretty ok and somewhat better.

pretty ok: Merry, Pippin
slightly better: Sam, Frodo, Bilbo
best hobbit: Fatty Bolger

same goes for a few of the other proposals:

pretty ok: Eomer

useless: Denethor, Bergil

The conclusion is that as proposed now, I agree that Bergil and Denethor could be improved, and the others are not necessary.

You dont play Denethor, because he is weak and will be killed. This is not true for Merry, Eomer etc. The set of reasonably useful guys includes Dain II, Peath, Haldalam and such.

Yeah but we were not talking about making merry just strikly better....
a good way would be to find an ability that would make him good in certain decks.... not compeatable with bilbo or frodo or sam!!!

I liked this idea better for Galva, to be honest, let the men fight over her affection. Or is this meant to reflect his name, literally?
I like the change it can bring to a game, but still if it's only this ability, it's a little pale, don't you think? we can only introduce so many cards, despite Boder's dreams, we can't be redesigning the whole game
