3 relations to CoE rather than 2?

Currently rules/rulings/errata/card texts have only two relations to CoE: official and unofficial. I suggested in my agenda email at the start of this term that we should institute a third category between these two: endorsed.

Endorsement as I understand it involves the 'nod' of CoE; it says "We like this! Try it!" It does not constitute official rules/rulings/errata/card texts, but it does distinguish certain ideas from others. After all, there are a lot of scenarios and alternative behaviors in the air; why shouldn't we pick out the best of these and endorse them?

In this thread I would like to see discussion of two things:

(1) Should we institute this third category?

(2) If we do institute it, what should be included?

i think this has allready been sort-of done with balrog 2-mind optional rule

do you have any other ideas what would rule would be a good idea to be endorsed?

or do you mean to "endorse" the usual play-styles like crap-deck, drinking game, hamburg scenarios, etc.?

not a bad idea either, in my eyes..

Right, the optional rule is one good example.

In addition to that, I have in mind the four new challenge decks, the upcoming mission decks, and a variety of scenarios like crap-sealed, Joe's Boxed Game, and perhaps eventually virtual cards (if we ever decide to go down that path).

I think this is a pretty cool idea. Eventually, of course, we should feel free to use "official" for things that we become absolutely comfortable with--like maybe the Balrog rule after a few years and the support of a few star-systems, er, I mean national councils. (Slipped into Star Wars-emperor speak for a moment).

Also importantly, it will *increase COE presence* to start having these tag of "COE Endorsed" appearing on stuff. Again, that is good for us; builds clout.

Good idea, Mark.

Should the first motion be to endorse the Balrog rule? I think it's ready for that, yes?

Also, should there be "public announcements" of COE endorsements to the meccg.net forum? Hmm, perhaps only of the important ones? Ooh, perhaps the newsletter can be our overall vehicle of communication of such things, sort of like our "Mouth of Sauron"?

Hmmmm... I had in mind to make 'endorsement' part of our new constitution; the old one only mentions official stuff; we could make the new one include endorsed stuff as well....

In any case I think it's best to establish the category of endorsement first, and then start putting things into it, rather than just endorsing one thing.

What do you think?

This seems to be a very good idea, Mark!

In that case, would someone like to make a motion?

(I keep asking this because I don't want to be dictatorial; sorry if you find it overly formal...)

What do we need a motion for? It's just something that's going into our new constitution. Let's write the constitution, then approve it, reject it, or approve with changes. We're certainly not going to make a motion for every idea suggested for the newsletter, for instance.
