Am I correct in thinking that there is no way to change a submitted vote back to neither option?

Yes, that is correct. Once you submit a vote on an item, your only option is to change your vote. There is no ability to rescind your vote entirely.

This is not a deliberate choice on our end, but rather how the software is programmed to work.
