So you have changed your opinion?
I changed my opinion from the original post in that I now believe that Orcs are not escape artists.

I'm not sure what your references are getting at. My wording in the second reference was to specifically affecting characters taken prisoner. I don't think anyone would argue that Orc and Troll characters are cards that specifically affect characters taken prisoner; they don't contain the word "prisoner" anywhere in their effect text.

Perhaps your point is that I should have been more precise in saying:
"I would still argue that the discard mechanic [would otherwise] affect the prisoner because..."

Is there no errata on this? How does this match "This effect represents the target running or slinking away from the attack" when there is no attack??

Question is, who is imprisoned entity:

1) Bearer of ring.
2) Character (that coincidentally bears ring).

In case (2) ring does not affect its bearer.

Rings born stay with the prisoner, but they do not effect the prisoner unless they specifically mention they effect prisoner bearers.

Specifically mentioning that they effect the bearer does not count as specifically effecting prisoners. The cannot-be-affected rule has to have an exception only for prisoner characters as a concept, not as a specific entity, otherwise it would be vacuous.
