Some information on a few never-published MECCG products:
(1) The War Hosts expansion allowing for factions to act as armies.
(2) Here there be Dragons scenario book
(3) Mordor's Black Gate scenario book

------------------------------

(1) War Hosts Expansion Set (originally this set supposed to be released after The Dragons but was delayed, and then was going to release after White Hand, but never made it.)

MCCG Netrep/Playtester Scott Frazer: The second planned expansion will be based around the factions. This hasn't even hit the design table yet, but I understand it will create almost a war game type atmosphere out of some portions of the game, using the factions from the main set.

Bob Mohney of ICE: We removed Warhosts from the 1998 schedule for a good reason; we have yet to come up with a good set of mechanics to make it workable. Trying to mix a game about small companies moving around Middle-earth with control of armies is no simple thing. So far, the attempts have been very clunky. Once we can get this issue straightened out, we will consider putting it back on the schedule.

Here there be Dragons

"Dragons steal gold and jewels, you know, from men and elves and dwarves, wherever they can find them; and they guard their plunder as long as they live (which is practically forever, unless they are killed)..."The Hobbit, p. 23

Journey into the Wilds like Bilbo and the Dwarves to reclaim stolen treasure from a Dragon hoard. Dare to enter Dol Guldur as Gandalf did, seeking the identity of the dread Necromancer and hearing by chance the fateful dying words of the Dwarf-lord Thráin. Or engage in the sport of town baiting, setting Lake-town ablaze as Smaug the Golden. Here Be Dragons provides new sites and scenarios for the casual MECCG player with a yen to encounter treasure-hunting Dwarves, fire-breathing Dragons, and the denizens of the foulest dungeons in Mirkwood.

Here Be Dragons includes:
  • color map of Rhovanion, measuring 21" x 16"
  • 16 new sites printed on heavy stock, ready to be cut apart into cards
  • 3 exciting hero scenarios for 2 or more players:
    • Dragon Hunt,
    • The Great Hoard, and
    • The Haunt of the Necromancer
  • Guidelines for playing a Dragon
  • Here Be Dragons mini gazetteer of Rhovanion describing ruined Dwarf-holds where Dragons lair and evil towers under the Necromancer's sway.
ST #3347 $10.00

Mordor's Black Gate

"Across the mouth of the pass, from cliff to cliff, the Dark Lord had built a rampart of stone. In it there was a single gate of iron, and upon its battlement sentinels paced unceasingly." The Two Towers, p. 308

The newest MECCG: Sites and Scenarios book will allow you to defend the pass of Cirith Ungol against the terrifying Elf-warrior (Sam!) prowling the region's citadels. Prevent the Ringbearer from reaching the fires of Mount Doom and destroying Sauron's Ruling Ring. You are a Nazgûl, and you serve the terrifying majesty of the Dark Lord of Mordor. Have you the wherewithal to bring his stratagems to fruition? Mount Doom provides new sites and scenarios for the casual MECCG player with fun and entertainment as his or her goal.

As a Black Rider, track Frodo and the Fellowship through the wilds of Middle-earth to sieze the One Ring for your Master. As a lowly Orc, commit deeds of sufficient mayhem to propel you upward through the ranks of Darkness. As a Lieutenant of Mordor, pit your forces against the Captains of the West in the apocolyptic Battle of the Black Gate.

Mordor's Black Gate provides new sites and scenarios for the casual MECCG player who seeks a clash between minion and hero.

Mordor's Black Gate includes:
  • color map of Mordor, measuring 21" x 16"
  • 16 new sites printed on heavy stock and ready to be cut apart into cards
  • 5 exciting minion scenarios:
    • The Black Rider,
    • Orders,
    • Prepare the Master's Return
    • Priming for War, and
    • Mordor's Black Gate
  • mini gazetteer of Mordor describing who has usurped what

Yeah, it sounds like fun! I have not yet dived into the DC The Great Wyrms set, but it would be fun to re-create some of these scenarios using the Dream Card by the same name.

Another sidenote on dragons, during playtesting The Dragons expansion was supposed to have a 4th "Enraged" manifestation beyond the original 3 manifestations (creature, At Home, Ahunt). I'm not sure whether these mechanics were abandoned or if they were moved to the "special" events tied to each of the Manifestations. I doubt they were similar to the Roused factions since this was back in The Dragons.

This reminds me that I'm supposed to be working on updating the avatar templates for the Dragons! Here's a sneak peak at an early idea for Smaug the Golden:

Looks great!

By the way, Jan Kees pointed me to a previous discussion on these books over at MECCG: http://www.meccg.net/forum/viewtopic.ph ... GBfY1NYhb8
