Dear MECCG Community,

We're proud to present our new Official Card Database:

Detailed Post | Explore the Database | Download | Github Respotiory

What's the use for it?

Having all the latest attributes and texts for all cards all in the same place (including errata and clarifications from the CRF, latest reprints from the Challenge Decks when applicable, specific card rules from the Rule Books, etc.).

It's available for anyone who wants to build any MECCG-related project.

Additionally, the website meccg.com/cards is currently using this same database, allowing you to explore this information in an accessible format, complete with images from the Remaster Project that accurately reflect the same data. Card texts in text format, readily available for copy/paste purposes (useful for rules debates, digests, etc.), can also be found there.

What is a Database?

A database is a structured collection of data. In our case, it contains all the information about the MECCG cards, such as attributes, texts, image URLs, and more. This data is often stored in a format like JSON (JavaScript Object Notation). A JSON file organizes information in a simple and structured way, making it easier for applications to read and understand it. However, JSON files and raw databases can be challenging to interpret directly because they are designed to be consumed by software rather than humans.

That's where an application comes in. An application built to explore this database provides a user-friendly interface that lets you search, filter, and view the data in an understandable format. It transforms the raw data into something accessible and useful, without requiring technical knowledge to interpret it.

What made it possible?

Most of the work was already done by independent volunteers known as the Remaster Project team. These card images are the ones being used in www.meccg.com, play.meccg.com, Sit Down and Play, Ringlore and others. From now on, the Remaster Project will use the updated texts in this database.

How does it influence the Remaster Project?

The Remaster Project has been the foundation to create this database. However, now this database is independent, and will be maintained by the CoE.

Will it be updated?

Yes! This is a living database that will be updated with each new version of the CRF. The database is hosted on a GitHub repository. For those who may not be familiar, GitHub is a platform that allows you to store and manage projects, as well as track changes over time. You can view the history of changes and contributions directly in the repository, making it easy to keep up with the latest updates.

If I see any error, what can I do? Is there any other way I can help?

Of course! This is a vast project, and we might make mistakes. While the database cannot be edited directly by the community, the Council of Elrond will take care of making the necessary changes and uploading the new version. If you notice any errors, feel free to create a new topic in this forum, and we'll review and implement corrections as needed.

Thank you for being a part of this amazing community. Together, we can continue to make MECCG the best experience it can be. Happy exploring!
