another year, another Lure. This is going to be true also for 2024.

Last year we had an amazing numer of players, so we decided to have a max cap this year (which is 200). There is just not enough space at the castle for more than that. And as it turned out, it was a good decidion, as we reached the max number within a few days.

Still there is hope. Some had to cancel their registration already, some decided not to reply at all after the registration (so got cancelled). And so there are a few spots available again at the moment (and we also have a waiting list).

Better hurry now, if you want to join. This link https://lureofmiddleearth.com/ will show you the way.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Just added an Excel file on this forum to help build decks off the web
to later paste into an online gaming format like Cardnum.
This can help you handle past winning decks.
Oh, many Worlds winning decks are in this file ready for you to play.
Any comments, please share on the link below.

Maybe you should limit the number of people players bring with them? They take up space but don't play, thus prohibiting other players from participating.

Or maybe 2 events on different dates:
- one for Meccg
- one for the LCG

That was my second option, in case the first would not be accepted ;)
By the way, there is another castle at the foot of the hill. Though I'm not sure if it's as cheap.

In my opinion (correct me if I'm wrong, Wolfgang), I would say that thanks to the LCG players, it's possible to continue holding the event, as the number of MeCCG players who attend every year is decreasing. Nevertheless, I don't recall there having been problems with spots for MeCCG enthusiasts in the past.

i am happy to correct you, Kodi ;-)
we had some very strong years in the beginning, then it came down to a number between 70 and 90 participants constantly. Till last year, when we crossed the line of 100 by a few. And this year it will be even more (as it looks right now).
on the other hand: LOTR has been growing strongly and probably will do further so.
So we need to find a solution for the obvious "problem". Even more so, because 2025 will be the 25th MECCG anniversary, and maybe this will attract even more players.

the discussion has alread started, fine so. Will discuss this with Dominik (the LOTR guy) soon.
However, i have doubts about option 1. The Lure event was from the beginning and in it´s core a non-competitive event (like Worlds), where families have always been welcome, also players playing other games than MECCG. Some probably attend, BECAUSE they are able to take with them their families and/or partners.

The fact that this event has reached a cap should be celebrated! It has taken 24 years to reach this level. It is certainly too soon to think about splitting the two games that bring this to capacity since neither can do this alone. Rather, it is better, for now at least, to find a way to squeeze a few more in around the edges by having attendance of the event with limited or no other accommodations or creative solutions.
If the growth is sustaining in the next few years -- then it will be time to split.
Of course this is just my opinion and my vast experience is one tournament.

My tournament report from the General Open Opponent Tournament.
I love what I call my Long-Expected Unexpected Dwarves Have Come to Party Deck. If I had played in Worlds 2023, it is what I would have been running. So I took it to Lure with me to see what would happen.

Round 1 v. Karel
I started off this game well. My opponent had Elrond escort Frodo and Sam to the Gladden Fields and grabbed a ring. On his second turn, his wizard showed up at Rosgobell. In route to combine the two parties together, Elrond fell to corruption. But his deck was a well-oiled machine and Elrond was really just spare parts at this point. I had to cut my hazard limit in half in order to grab a couple of anti-ring cards. Meanwhile, my dwarf party headed directly to Moria to grab Gollum, and I also drew an eagle for an express visit and ring theft! But one turn blocking me from reaching the eagles was all my opponent really needed to stop the eagle plot. He’d managed to play all the Nazgûl as events and dumped my hand. Then he did it again. Meanwhile, my own wizard did not appear until the last turn. He could not reach Mt. Doom in time. I managed to draw and keep my anti-ring tech, but it didn’t matter because the hobbits reduced their hazard limit to zero at Mount Doom and tossed in the ring. Perfectly executed dunk! Lebron James would be impressed! O-7 TP defeat. Record 0-1.
Round 2 Giannis
The second round was against another hero deck, and was a very tight race from start to finish as we were competing for the same resources ((Orcrist, Glamdring, factions). My dice were also against me in this round, including being unable to roll better than a 3 in order to collect two different dwarf factions. But the worst part was being caught in a siege, with a large party of dwarves at the Blue Mountain Dwarfhold after losing the faction!
Eventually, I was able to lift the siege with a marvel told. I added Balin to the group at his home site, and they raced to Angmar in order to play two greater items. The game went to time without either one of us reaching the end of our decks. I was close but on my last turn I still had no allies in play. So I split the party and headed to both ally sites. The first card I drew was Gollum! In the end, I had 23 points and he had 22. 4-2 TP victory! Record 1-1.
Round 3 vs Per
The next round, I came against a fallen Alatar opponent, running my primary avatar. This is not a problem, because in many ways, the deck runs better with my back up, wizard, (especially against this opponent’s deck). My corruption strategy was a constant drag on his deck, which featured a Minion dwarf with dwarf treasure items. He was afraid of entering into treasure sites and running into an on-guard Greed card because his dwarf carried Durin’s Axe and often a Lure of Expedience or Lure of the Senses. The brown wizard and his ability allowed me to blitz through my deck in record time, and I won the match handily with a 6-0 result. Record 2-1.

Round 4 vs Mario
My next opponent apparently has the reputation of the king of the Dreamcard tournament having won it many years in a row! I did not get him in action the night before when I participated. Today he was running a Sauron minion deck of sneaking orcs in dragon country and Troll Lts recruiting orc factions.
It was a tight game with his or parties, running around and corruption and rivers slowing him a little. But it was not quite enough. One failed corruption check would have been the difference, but his dice were loyal. 4-2 TP defeat. Record 2-2.

Round 5 v. Roland
So I go into the last round with an even record, and really wanting to come away with a winning record on the day my opponent reveals starting party of a dwarf with two hobbits. I’m thinking initially it might be a one ring deck of some sort, and I’m pleased, and somewhat surprised That my opening hand included my two Ally cards, Gollum and the eagle so I immediately heading in that direction to gather both of them by the time I obtain them it was apparent that his hobbits were not going to be heading to Mount doom, but we’re helping the dwarf in dragon country. This was where my game fell apart. I tried to get too greedy, even though I knew he was playing a hazard strategy that focuses on tearing a fellowship apart. I made a foolish move of separating my party and using up all of my general influence. Not only got half of my party killed, two calls of home sent my head dwarf back to my hand and both of my both allies went away also! I then ran into a virtual thunderstorm of drakes at every location after rebuilding my fellowship. Drakes were flying off with dwarf take-away meals, like it was a Chinese food buffet! I scrambled just to get enough points on the board to avoid a 6-0 TP defeat. But I was not successful because in the end, his ally points doubled and that was just enough to put him over the 5-1 victory.

Overall it was a day of goodwill and I was just happy to meet so many fine players in person!
I have many more observations about Lure that I want to share at some point. But for now, this tournament report will do.

Great report, thank you!

It has been, once again, a wonderful weekend. I enjoyed the Hero-1-deck and mixed languages sealed tournaments, along a series of entertaining, exciting and full-of-cool-moves Arda games. A few casual board games sides made this simply a perfect time for me. Big thanks to the organisers!!
