COMPANIONS OF THE HEART

" 'You move me, Gimli,' said Legolas. 'I have never heard you speak like this before. Almost you make me regret that I have not seen these caves. Come! Let us make this bargain - if we both return safe out of the perils that await us, we will journey for a while together. You shall visit Fangorn with me, and then i will come with you to see Helm's Deep.' " - LotRIII

Goal :
The War of the Ring is over. Gimli and Legolas must fulfill their bargain to each other and then rally their people to help Aragorn II rebuild Minas Tirith. But there are many inhabitants of Middle-earth who still oppose the new King, and it is often after a great victory that one becomes weary and vulnerable to despair and other trials...

Note: This scenario was designed for solitaire play, but can also be played as a complete deck against an opponent as well.

Movement :
Select the following sites in this order: Minas Tirith, any site in Rohan, Glittering Caves, Wellinghall, Lórien, any site in Anduin Vales, Thranduil's Halls, The Lonely Mountain, and Henneth Annûn.

Gimli and Legolas must begin at Minas Tirith and travel to each of these sites in the course of the game. they must visit the Glittering Caves and Wellinghall before attempting to influence a faction. They may only move one region at a time (e.g., from Minas Tirith to the site in Rohan, then to Glittering Caves, etc.), except from The Lonely Mountain to Henneth Annûn. After Henneth Annûn, return to Minas Tirith for the last turn.

Special Rules :
No Wizard is involved in this scenario. Do not include any Wizards or spells in the resource decks.

The other characters in the deck are people that Gimli and Legolas may meet along the way. They only travel with the two starting characters for a maximum of two turns. They are removed from play on the second organization phase after their arrival.

Legolas or Gimli may tap in support of each other, giving +1 to an influence attempt or to an attempt to remove a corruption card.

For purposes of this scenario, The Lonely Mountain is considered to be a Border-hold (without an automatic-attack).

The Iron Hill Dwarves are considered to be Dwarves of The Lonely Mountain and will be influenced there. Gimli may store the Book of Mazarbul there.

Mirror of Galadriel will not be used in the standard way. Instead, you may play it at Lórien to search through your play deck for one of the factions. Place this faction in your hand and reshuffle your play deck.

Victory Conditions :
You win a total victory if you muster both factions, store the Book of Mazarbul at The Lonely Mountain and return to Minas Tirith with 22 marshalling points or more. The Dwarves now know the truth about Moria; Minas Tirith will attain a new glory unheard of in previous years; and the two companions will have sealed their friendship forevermore.

"After the fall of Sauron, Gimli brought south a part of the Dwarf-folk of Erebor; and he became Lord of the Glittering Caves. He and his people did great works in Gondor and Rohan. For Minas Tirith they forged gates of mithril and steel to replace those broken by the Witch-king. Legolas, his friend, also brought south Elves out of Greenwood, and they dwelt in Ithilien, and it became once again the fairest country in all the westlands."
- LotR

Some remarks about this solitaire scenario :
- Gimli has his special +2 bonus against the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain
- Dreams of Lore : no Sage to play this card. So, add a Sage or replace it with Gwaihir
- 2 Twilights : should be considered as resources

I play it with the following rules :
- resource hand : 8 cards
- hazard cards drawn : 2 plus twice the number of hazard cards normally draw for the site (6 for a "2" site ; 4 for a "1" site...). Play the hazards as dangerously as possible. Discard the unused hazard cards.
- end of turn : you can discard 1 card, and draw 1 card
- when the hazard deck or the resource deck is exhausted, shuffle the discarded cards, and make a new deck with them

Sorry for resurrecting an old topic, but didn't want to create a new one on the exact same scenario.
Tried the scenario two times, but winning seems to be impossible, unless backtracking, or free roaming among the predefined regions is allowed.

The way i play it, is each turn the company has to move to the next site, until it reaches its final destination Henneth Annûn, then return to Minas Tirith.
Problem is, sometimes factions / characters are not in hand to be played as needed, and when they are, it might already be to late, since the company has to push forward to the next site.

Is this how this scenario is intended to be played?

Hello !
Thank you for showing your interest for this ICE solitaire scenario ( a challenging one !).
The spirit of this scenario is that you must move every turn, and you can not go backwards.

The characters can be put in play at Lorien. You have 2 A Chance Meeting to play Beregond or Haldir at various sites.
When a card becomes useless, change it at "the end of turn" phase.
Do not hesitate to play cards. You must draw the 2 factions !
You have a joker with Mirror of Galadriel to pick one of these factions at Lorien....

Hello, and thank you for clarifying this.

I think only _Haldir_ is playable with A Chance Meeting because he has a _Mind_ of 2.
Because Legolas or Gimli, have a DI of only 2. Right?

Beregond has a mind of 2.
Haldir has a mind of 3, but Gimli has + 1 DI vs Elves.
