Ringlore (V)
Permanent Event
MP: 1
Playable on a sage character at an untapped site where infomation is playable. Tap the sage and the site. Whenever you test a ring, you may either add or subtract one to the roll (after the roll). Such a modified roll cannot reveal the The One ring. Cannot be duplicated on a given character.
Might be nice for a Gandy deck? I'd like to avoid anything to do with corruption.

You're probably right, the Gandiman is the ringlore master, though Sharku might disagree It would be nice indeed to see more Gandalf play if he can actually make good of his ringtesting ability.

I think that somehow the One should be kept out of ringlore V. With this added, you need a 7 instead of an 8, and that seriously ups the odds for dunk decks.

I agree Ringbearer and my version two posts above yours does just that.
I really do like this Ringlore, and could foresee it bringing some worth to Gandalf's under-used second ability. This version makes you work with its intended use to gain the MP:

Sage only during the site phase at an untapped site where infomation is playable. Tap the sage and the site. If a Gold Ring in the same company as a sage with Ringlore is tested you may either add or subtract one to the roll (after the roll). A modified roll cannot be used to reveal the The One Ring. If a ring is played following such a test, this card gives 1 MP. Cannot be duplicated on a character.

Would any similar modification be forthcoming for Secrets of Their Forging?

I think you should get the one point of marsheling ANYway... not because you have testet a ring...
and there is even the problem of keeping track of it.... how do you see if a ring has be played with it.
And why limit the +-1 only for the company where the sage is???
why not make it an event that is placed on table? like rumor of rings??

1) Because you want to encourage the play of special item rings with this card. Simply tap the card when a ring has been played.
2) Because a generic +/- 1 to ring tests anywhere is really rather strong.

Because of the statistics. It really ups the possibilty of good rings being played.
